EMS & FD
Open House
Thank You to all the members of the department and especially those
of the community for attending the Open House that was put on by
Fredericktown EMS & Fredericktown Fire Department. With the
efforts of many members the event was a success. The morning
started out with demonstrations on SCUBA diving, and Auto
extrication, then a demonstration on how to use Fire extinguishers,
and the at 12:40 Med Flight 5 arrived on the west side of the
building. Flight crew members were on hand to talk about their
equipment and their jobs. Kids and adults were given the
opportunity to tour the aircraft and to see just what a wonderful
tool this is to have available to our community.
Educational items for all ages were available to the community and
again I welcome the members to stop by the station if they have any
questions. Thank you for your continued support.
Thank you for your support
I
would like to thank the residents of the Fredericktown Community
Joint Emergency Ambulance District for once again showing their
support towards our service. On May 8th, 77% of the
voting population supported our request for additional funding.
With
the additional funding we will be able to continue to provide
daytime staffing with 2 members on station between the hours of 7 am
and 5 pm, with future plans on increasing the hours to 12 hours a
day. Also the funding will be used to help with the purchasing of
equipment that is used by the crews.
With
the ever changing medical treatments we will be encouraging our
members to help further their education by attending educational
classes that have to do with emergency medical care, thus allowing
us to be current with medical treatment trends.
I am very fortunate to be able to serve the district as the chief,
and also I am very fortunate to have a great staff that dedicated
their time and efforts into helping provide a great service to our
community. I encourage members of the community to become
aware of what we are doing as a department, please feel free to
contact me in person, by phone or e-mail .
I
would like to invite all the members of the community and
surrounding communities to attend the Open house that will be held
at the station on Columbus Rd on June 9th from 10 am
until 2 pm. We will have our equipment on display, some
informative information available and we have Med Flight scheduled
to be here for the public to view starting at 12pm.
Again
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the community for
their continued support.

FEMA Grant Awarded to Fredericktown
EMS
|
The Fredericktown EMS recently received a grant
thru the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant to purchase 29 sets
of EMS gear. This gear will allow for all of our members to be
protected against Blood Borne Pathogens. Also the gear will
offer a "FLASH" protection in case of a fire while assisting with
patient care during auto extrications. Included in the grant
are boots, pants, jackets, helmets and gloves. It is important
to offer our members the highest level of protection from hazards
that potentially could hurt them or their families. We will be
purchasing the items thru Fire Safety Services.
Fredericktown EMS get an
EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TRAILER
The Fredericktown EMS was awarded
several grants in excess of $11,000 thru various organizations to
purchase and equip a trailer to be used during a period when
temporary shelter would be needed for the community. The
Community Trust of Mt. Vernon & Knox County, The Peoples Fund
(Consolidated Electric), Wayne Grange, Mast Electric, Unique
Metal Designs, and the Knox County Chapter of the
American Red Cross have all made sizeable contributions in one form
or another to make this entire project possible. The
Fredericktown Presbyterian church has signed a contract with the Red
Cross to allow the EMS or Red Cross to set up an emergency shelter
in the time of need. A hook up for a generator was installed
at the church to allow the church to be powered during any such
emergency. The Fredericktown Fire Department received a large
diesel generator to be used to power the church during the
emergency.
Items in the trailer include cots, blankets,
pillows, paper products, bath towels, convinces kits, water jugs,
and soon to be added will be communication capabilities with
numerous agencies in and around Knox County. We are currently
looking for some donation to be able to purchase games, and
activities that could be used when the shelter is set up, and also
looking for VOLUNTEERS to work in the shelter and around the
community during a emergency. As a community that comes
together in times of need, we would like to have as many members of
"our community" help and assist with the shelter as possible.
If anyone is interested in helping out with the shelter please
contact Chief Rick Lanuzza by e-mail at
chief441@fredericktownems.net.
Burgett Family / Kokosing &
Landers Family Foundations make generous donations
On December 28, 2006, members of the
Burgett Family/ Kokosing Foundation along with the Landers Foundation made
generous donations towards the improvement of pre-hospital cardiac care in
Knox County. Donations totaling more than $60,000.00 were
distributed to EMS departments in Knox County for the updating of cardiac
monitoring equipment and the technology to wirelessly transmit 12 lead
ECG's. With the announcement of the upcoming C-PORT trials at Knox
Community Hospital which involves interventional cardiac stents for ST
segment elevation M/I's (STEMI) we thought that it was imperative to make
this step forward. By having this technology the medics transporting
patients will be able to send a diagnostic quality 12 lead ECG to the
Emergency Department prior to the arrival of the patient, thus allowing
the Emergency Department to prepare for necessary therapy. This is an
exciting time for Fredericktown EMS along with the other departments in
Knox County, by having the ability to transmit 12 leads maybe we can help
improve the time that it will take a patient to be recovering from an
cardiac intervention. We would like to thank the members of both
foundations for their generous donations to the communities of Knox County
and their efforts for improving pre-hospital cardiac care.
